Oh my goodness! On every missions trip there are times that stand out and are extremely eye opening, life changing, and completely God-awesome moments...this was not one of those times. This was the youth of America proving why they are among the most amazing group of people to ever walk the planet. There were six people who embarked on an epic journey of trying to devour a one pound hamburger. Some added more toppings and others ate it along with french fries, while some simply downed one pound of FDA approved cooked ground beef. Those who attempted(and completed) the challenge were: Sonya 'The Mouth' Kukor, Michael 'Duke who's going to puke' Wiltshire, Katrina 'Piece of Cake' Kukor, Scott 'Can I Have Another' Forslund, Brittany 'Mine Has Way More Bread Than Yours' Kinard, and Jeremiah 'I'm a Real Man' Cook. I have never been more impressed by a group of students(ok maybe that's a stretch). But it truly was amazing to witness how quickly these students were able to down one pound cheeseburgers. Sonya Kukor(who is going to be a 7th grader) finished in the quickest time and ate all of her french fries as well.
I will now turn this into a very inspiring sermon illustration(I'm practicing Pastor Larry!): This is another great example of how community works within the body of Christ(say what Peter?). Think about it...I would be confident in saying that none of the students who attempted the "one pound throw down" would have attempted such a feat if they were simply eating out by themselves. But when challenges are presented and you are surrounded by people who you know love, care, and want to see you succeed you realize that no obstacle is too great, no hurdle too high, and no burger too big. There is an encouraging amount of fulfillment to be found when you are surrounded by a group of friends and students who are willing to walk along side you and face any challenges that come along.
I just wanna know - did "The Duke" eat the bun?
ReplyDeleteHaha to the comment above. Oh my word, you guys, I love you all so much, but those are not my favorite pictures of you... ;). So good to see you guys are having good times of fun and fellowship as well as learning looooooots at the conference. Praying for VBS--all the different teams, open hearts, God-guided teaching, and FUN!! Love.
ReplyDeleteHi Paula!
ReplyDeleteWe hope "transition day" went well and that you had an awesome afternoon and evening puting into practice some of the things you learned at the conference. Everybody wants to say "Hi"

Anna wanted to post something, but she's over at Anna's right now. She misses you too!
Love you,
mom
To Brittany Kinard:
ReplyDeleteYou go girl! Eat that burger!
Strange to think that you are visiting places Todd was at just a few weeks ago...
We keep you in our prayers. Let us know when you get back!
Love,
The Patricks
Another pet update for Reina and Dani. I have some good news and some bad news. Since you are on a wonderful mission trip I will spare you the bad news. The good news is that Belle spit out the kitty cat and there was no damage that a nice dry towel did not fix.
ReplyDeleteBrittany, you continually amaze me...
ReplyDeletePeter, I pray that everything is going smooth, as smooth as mission trips go!
Michael and Mandy, boys are great! They made a few videos for you!
Nadja, love you and praying for you! Maria is having fun with the boys...without you!
Have fun everyone!
Love, Nikki
Hi Miah!

PS - Dad misses his camera!
